From the outside, the WELLPOINT People Counter is a small box beside the door. This article looks at how the Pulse V3 – the current WELLPOINT People Counter model, made by Involver System SRL in Romania – turns people walking through a doorway into entry and exit counts, and what happens to those counts afterwards.
Time-of-Flight in Plain Words
The Pulse V3 uses a time-of-flight (ToF) matrix sensor. Time-of-flight is a way of measuring distance with light: the sensor sends out laser light and measures how long it takes to come back. A matrix sensor does this for a grid of points rather than a single beam, so the counter works with a set of distance values across the doorway – numbers, not a photo.
That difference matters. There is no camera in the device: it does not record images or video and does not identify people. The Pulse V3 does not capture images or identify visitors. Only anonymous entry and exit counts are transmitted from the counter.
Why It Sits Beside the Door
The counter is mounted beside the entrance – on the door frame or the wall, and an anti-theft (EAS) gate is also possible – at 1.2 to 1.4 m above the floor and at a right angle to the walking direction. From there, the sensor looks across the doorway, and people pass through its field of view as they walk in or out.
One device covers a doorway up to about 2.4 m wide. Wider entrances use several devices, which are grouped in WELLPOINT.cloud as one entrance, so the reports show a single figure for that entrance.
Two-Way Counting
The Pulse V3 counts in both directions and keeps entries and exits apart. That is what makes occupancy possible: WELLPOINT.cloud calculates current occupancy as entries minus exits, based on the latest synchronized counts. The calculation happens in the cloud, not in the device.
Power and Connection
- Power: a 5 V USB power adapter (included) in a mains socket near the door. The counter is not battery-powered, so there are no batteries to replace.
- Connection: built-in mobile data, included in every plan. Where the mobile signal is weak, for example in a basement, Wi-Fi is also possible.
- Network: no network cable and nothing to set up on your own network. The counter sends its data over a secure connection.
- Coverage: the device is built for global use; built-in mobile data works in supported countries and network coverage areas.
From Counter to Dashboard
The counts arrive in WELLPOINT.cloud, a browser dashboard that also works on a phone. How often they update depends on the plan: real-time, with data updates every 5 minutes on PLUS and PRO, and hourly on LITE. The dashboard shows visitors by hour and day, month-by-month trends, monthly totals per location and current occupancy. On PLUS and PRO the data can be exported as CSV; on PRO, the API can be used to integrate WELLPOINT visitor counts with POS, BI or other business systems.

What Is in the Box
The counter, a 5 V USB power supply with cable, a mounting bracket, two double-sided adhesive strips, a QR code that leads to the installation guide, and access to WELLPOINT.cloud.
Setup in About Five Minutes
- Plug in the power adapter.
- Register the serial number in WELLPOINT.cloud and enter a name, the location and the time zone.
- Hold the button for 3 seconds to sync; a light and a beep confirm it.
- Mount the counter beside the entrance.
After mounting, walk through the door a few times and check that entries and exits appear correctly in the dashboard. It is a sensible, quick test of the installation.
Simple by Design
The Pulse V3 does one job: it counts people entering and leaving through a doorway, reliably and anonymously, and leaves the analysis to WELLPOINT.cloud and to your team. The device is ordered once, together with a LITE, PLUS or PRO plan, on visitorcount.com.
