Customers expect quick, comfortable, low-contact shopping, and retailers want to keep an eye on store traffic without adding friction. Contactless retail analytics fits this need: the counting happens at the door, without touching, scanning or identifying anyone.
WELLPOINT People Counters do exactly this with a small sensor beside the entrance.
Real-Time Occupancy for Comfortable Shopping
The counter counts entries and exits separately, and WELLPOINT.cloud calculates current occupancy as entries minus exits, based on the latest synchronized counts. The data is real-time, with data updates every 5 minutes on PLUS and PRO (hourly on LITE). Staff compare the figure with their own permitted maximum and with the level at which the store still feels comfortable.
When occupancy rises, managers can open additional checkouts, including self-checkout stations, or move staff to where customers need help.
Using Traffic Patterns to Plan the Store
Visitors by hour and day show when the store is busiest, so restocking, deliveries and cleaning can be scheduled outside the peaks. The counter measures traffic at the entrance, not what happens on the sales floor, so layout questions are better answered by combining its figures with what staff observe.
With the store’s own sales figures, the counts also give the conversion rate – transactions divided by visitors – which helps judge whether a layout or staffing change made a difference.
Privacy-First Technology for Modern Retail
The Pulse V3 does not capture images or identify visitors. Only anonymous entry and exit counts are transmitted from the counter, over a secure connection. It uses a time-of-flight (ToF) sensor instead of a camera, so there is no footage to manage. Several stores can be managed in one account.
The Future of Frictionless Shopping
Contactless retail is about confidence and convenience. With people counting data, retailers plan from measured traffic instead of guessing when customers will come.
The WELLPOINT People Counter (Pulse V3) mounts on the door frame or wall beside the entrance, needs only its 5 V USB power adapter and sends counts over built-in mobile data. Devices and plans are on visitorcount.com.
