Retailers often ask what happens in the aisles: which part of the store people visit, where they stop, what they look at. Foot traffic analytics with a door counter starts one step earlier, at the entrance, and that first step already answers more questions than many stores expect.

WELLPOINT people counting technology counts every shopper who enters and leaves. It does not follow people through the store, and that is exactly why it works without a camera.

What Foot Traffic Analytics at the Door Tells You

The entrance count tells you how many people came in, when they came and how many are in the store, based on the latest synchronized counts. On PLUS and PRO the data is real-time, with data updates every 5 minutes; LITE updates hourly.

That is the basis for decisions about the aisles. If you know the store fills up at 17:00, shelves should be full and aisles clear before 17:00. If Saturday morning brings twice the visitors of a weekday, that is when extra staff on the floor make the biggest difference.

Visitor numbers also help with merchandising tests. When you move a promotional display or change the layout, compare the conversion rate (receipts divided by visitors) before and after. If more of the same number of visitors buy something, the change helped.

Measuring the time shoppers spend in front of shelves is something we may integrate later; today the WELLPOINT People Counter counts entries and exits at the door.

Turning Shopper Data into Better Retail Performance

Historical foot traffic shows the patterns that drive store planning: weekend peaks, seasonal highs, lunchtime spikes in city-center stores. Staffing schedules can follow these patterns, keeping service good at peak times and costs under control in quiet hours.

Staff can also keep an eye on crowding with occupancy monitoring during sales events, comparing the current occupancy with the store’s own permitted maximum.

Chains see all stores in one account, which makes it easy to compare similar stores and to check whether a layout that works in one store also works in another.

Privacy-First Retail Insights

The Pulse V3 does not capture images or identify visitors. Only anonymous entry and exit counts are transmitted from the counter. It is GDPR-friendly by design; full GDPR compliance also depends on the specific data-processing context.

Start at the Door

The WELLPOINT People Counter (Pulse V3) is mounted beside the store entrance at 1.2 to 1.4 m and sends its counts to WELLPOINT.cloud over built-in mobile data. You buy the device once on visitorcount.com and then choose LITE, PLUS or PRO.
