A university campus is a collection of very different buildings: lecture halls, libraries, laboratories, cafeterias, sports halls and administration. Each is used differently over the day and the academic year. Campus occupancy analytics with people counting shows how each building is actually used, which is the starting point for managing a campus well.
WELLPOINT people counting technology counts entries and exits at building entrances, without a camera, and brings all buildings together in one WELLPOINT.cloud account.
Understanding Building Use with Campus Occupancy Analytics
With counters at the entrances of each building, facility managers see how many people come in per hour and per day, and how many are inside, based on the latest synchronized counts. On PLUS and PRO the data is real-time, with data updates every 5 minutes; LITE updates hourly.
After a semester, the patterns are clear: which buildings are full from morning to evening, which are busy only at certain hours, and which are quieter than their size suggests. If one teaching building is permanently crowded while another has spare capacity, timetabling can move some lectures. Areas such as a library floor or a study center with their own entrances can be counted separately.
During events and exam periods, staff can compare the current occupancy of a building with its own permitted maximum using the occupancy monitoring view.
Improving Campus Efficiency and Resource Planning
Historical occupancy data turns facility planning into a factual discussion. Busy lecture hours, library peaks before exams and the quiet weeks between semesters all show up in the reports. Cleaning rounds, opening hours, security staffing and heating schedules can then follow the real use of each building.
All buildings, and even several campuses, sit in one account. With CSV export on PLUS and PRO, the figures go into the facility department’s reports, and on PRO, the API can be used to integrate WELLPOINT visitor counts with POS, BI or other business systems.
Privacy-First Campus Insights
Students and staff should not feel monitored on their own campus. The Pulse V3 does not capture images or identify visitors. Only anonymous entry and exit counts are transmitted from the counter. That makes it easy to explain to the university’s data protection officer and staff representatives. It is GDPR-friendly by design; full GDPR compliance also depends on the specific data-processing context.
Building Smarter Campuses
Knowing how each building is used makes every decision about space, services and investment easier. The WELLPOINT People Counter (Pulse V3) is mounted beside the entrance at 1.2 to 1.4 m and covers a doorway of up to about 2.4 m; wide main entrances use several devices grouped as one entrance. It uses built-in mobile data, so the campus network team has nothing to set up. Order it on visitorcount.com.
